League recap: Witherow throws longest pass in league this season for Glendale

Inter-County - Silver recap Sept. 26, 2012

Gary Witherow and Doug Twigg provided fans with a highlight when they connected against West Branch. The connection went for 80 yards, the longest such play in Inter-County - Silver this season.

Juniata Valley moved up to 294 from 346 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Hornets climbed the ranks as a result of a 47-34 win over the Hornets.

Austin McMonagle put up the best numbers through the air as Williamsburg fell to Everett. He finished with 14 completions for 160 yards and one touchdown. McMonagle's favorite target this week was Trey Bookhammer, who caught two passes for 40 yards.

Twigg was the best wideout in the league this week as Glendale lost to the Warriors. Twigg racked up four receptions for 138 yards. Shea O'Donnell helped Glendale's passing attack out by catching one ball for seven yards.

Brett Grissinger was the most productive running back in Inter-County - Silver this week. In 22 carries, he ran for 119 yards as Juniata Valley lost to West Branch. Teammate Jesse Claar added to the ground attack by rushing for 82 yards.

Damon Braniff provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Glendale fell to Lester Smeal's team. He completed one pass for 42 yards and also ran for 106 yards.

6-foot-1 quarterback Trey Claar of Claysburg-Kimmel is the league leader in passing yards this season with 471. He has also thrown four touchdowns. On the ground, Mike Smith's team's Claar has rushed for 542 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Twigg. The Glendale star has eight catches for 233 yards.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Moshannon Valley takes on second place Juniata Valley. Moshannon Valley beat Mt. Union last week, while the Hornets fell to Bellwood-Antis.

The Black Knights/Damsels were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to first in the league. Moshannon Valley defeated the Trojans 14-12 earlier in the week.
