Basketball Recap: Emporia Comes Up Short

Emporia was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 66-12 to the Hays Indians, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 259th, while the Indians are ranked 15th).

Emporia's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Hays, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Emporia will square off against Washburn Rural on Friday. Washburn Rural's defense has only allowed 28.2 points per game this season, so Emporia's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Hays, they will challenge Garden City at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hays knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Garden City likes a good challenge.
