Softball Recap: Bolles Find Success

Bolles was handed an eight-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past the Christ's Church Academy Eagles 9-8. That's more bragging rights for the Bulldogs, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Madden Lutze was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Bolles got a massive performance out of Logan Gonzalez, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Those three hits gave Gonzalez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aleda Cashwell, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI.

Bolles hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive contests.

The victory got Bolles back to even at 3-3. As for Christ's Church Academy, they moved to 5-2 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Bolles and University Christian, looking ahead, after both having extra time off, will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m. on the 17th. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Christians have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season. As for Christ's Church Academy, they will venture away from home to face off against Old Plank Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on the 24th.
