Baseball Recap: Waterloo Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Waterloo came into Monday's match having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Memorial Red Devils on Monday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Vikings needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Mason Biltz spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 14 Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Waterloo is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-10 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Austin Hurst, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Jacob Fortney was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

Waterloo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Waterloo's record is now 6-11. As for Memorial, they are on a 13-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-13.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Waterloo beat the Red Devils by a score of 12-2 on Tuesday.
