The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Falcons will take on the Tri-Valley Vikings at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley barely beat Lexington the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Falcons blew past the Minutemen 14-4 on Wednesday. The game was the first time the Falcons have beaten the Minutemen on their field since April 25, 2019.

Mallory Rosendahl made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Taylor Beck and Izzy Gawthrop did most of the damage at the plate: Beck scored four runs while going 3-for-5, while Gawthrop scored three runs while going 3-for-5. Bella Young was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Tri-Valley strolled into their game on Thursday with an undefeated record and they left with the same. They were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over Fieldcrest.
The team relied heavily on Paige Fesler, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Zoey Whittaker, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one double, and one RBI.
Tri-Valley's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, their win bumped their record up to 7-3.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like Tri-Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .380. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley might still be hurting after the 7-1 defeat they got from Tri-Valley in their previous matchup back in May of 2024.
