Baseball Recap: Utica Gets the Win

Utica hadn't done well against Grosse Pointe North recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Chieftains skirted past the Norsemen 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Chieftains have posted since April 24, 2024.

Utica got a great performance from Cole Cubitt as he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. The Chieftains are 2-1 when Cubitt allows two or fewer earned runs, but 4-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Utica's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Emillio Oddo, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.

Utica's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-10. As for Grosse Pointe North, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

Utica will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Norsemen: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
