Softball Recap: Academy of the Holy Names Beats Desoto County for Their Sixth Straight Victory

With a playoff win on the line, Academy of the Holy Names rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They never let the DeSoto County Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 14-0 win. The Jaguars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Taylor Williams was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Paris Land was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kacey Scott, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs.

Academy of the Holy Names hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

The victory (which was Academy of the Holy Names' sixth in a row) raised their record to 12-9. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for DeSoto County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-8.

As of now, neither Academy of the Holy Names nor the Bulldogs have any future games scheduled.
