Softball Recap: Irvine Has No Trouble Against Portola

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Rosary Academy, Irvine was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Portola Bulldogs with a sharp 11-1 victory. The Vaqueros haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Reese Villanueva and Katie Liu did most of the damage at the plate: Villanueva went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Liu went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Those two stolen bases gave Liu a new career-high. Abby Sasaki was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Irvine hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Irvine's victory bumped their record up to 7-16. As for Portola, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 13 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-14-1 record this season.

Irvine will have a chance to go back-to-back against Portola: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
