Softball Game Preview: Woodcrest Christian Royals vs. Linfield Christian Lions

For the second straight game, Woodcrest Christian will face off against Linfield Christian. The Royals will head out on the road to take on the Lions at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Woodcrest Christian is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.

Woodcrest Christian came up short against Linfield Christian on Tuesday, falling 18-3.

For Linfield Christian's part, Celeste Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. What's more, Smith posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Charli Calas, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Julia Preston was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Linfield Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Linfield Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Woodcrest Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.
