Valparaiso is 9-1 against Portage since January of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Valparaiso Vikings will host the Portage Indians at 7:00 p.m. Valparaiso is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.

Valparaiso saw some tournament action last Saturday. They came up short against South Bend St. Joseph, falling 72-52. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 191st, while the Huskies are ranked 16th).

Caden Crowell put forth a good effort for the losing side as he went 6 for 12 on his way to 17 points and seven rebounds. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kj Avery, who posted 11 points.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Portage's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 63-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fort Wayne Wayne. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (55), the Indians still had to take the loss.

Valparaiso's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Portage, their loss dropped their record down to 8-3.

Valparaiso came out on top in a nail-biter against Portage when the teams last played back in January of 2024, sneaking past 47-45. Does Valparaiso have another victory up their sleeve, or will Portage turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
