San Juan Hills is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Friday. They will challenge the Corona del Mar Sea Kings at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, San Juan Hills was able to grind out a solid win over Mira Costa, taking the game 38-28. The victory continues a trend for the Stallions in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won three in a row.

Timmy Herr continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 260 yards and three touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes, and also rushing for 82 yards and a pair of TDs. Those 82 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. 120 of Herr's passing yards were hauled in by Luke Frith, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
Meanwhile, Corona del Mar got the win against Trabuco Hills on Friday by a conclusive 35-13. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Sea Kings' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 46th, while the Mustangs are ranked 130th).
Corona del Mar's win came from a few key players San Juan Hills will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Chase Kuchera, who rushed for 120 yards and a pair of scores on only 13 carries. Dorsett Stecker was another key player, picking up 150 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Corona del Mar was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 247 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Corona del Mar's defense made their presence known, laying out Jackson Verplancke three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Alexander Nickin, Dylan Nichols, and Finn Grimstad, who each picked up one sack apiece.
San Juan Hills' record now sits at 4-1. As for Corona del Mar, their record is now 5-0.
Friday's contest will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Herr and Brady Annett. Herr just won't slow down this season and has thrown 16 touchdowns (and and only 2 picks) while averaging 266.8 passing yards per game. Annett has been a dominant force too and has thrown 18 touchdowns while averaging 228.2 passing yards per game.
San Juan Hills skirted past Corona del Mar 31-28 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Annett, who rushed for 52 yards and one TD on only six carries, and also threw for 162 yards and one touchdown while completing 83.3% of his passes. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Stallions still be able to contain Annett? There's only one way to find out.
