Basketball Recap: Wildwood's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

After a string of eight wins, Wildwood's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 71-66 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Zephyrhills Bulldogs. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Wildcats came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 184th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 572nd).

Wildwood's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Louis Brown, who posted 17 points in addition to five boards and four steals. With that strong performance, Brown is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Demarius Knight, who put up eight points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Wildwood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Wildwood's loss dropped their record down to 13-3. As for Zephyrhills, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Wildwood will host South Lake at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Zephyrhills, they and South Sumter will face off at 8:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Zephyrhills has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
