Basketball Recap: Cayden Hargrove Key Part of Team Effort in Pumas Win

Wise won the last time they faced Suitland and things went their way on Friday too. The Wise Pumas came out on top against the Suitland Rams by a score of 82-69. Given the Pumas' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Rams are ranked 95th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wise's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cayden Hargrove led the charge by dropping a double-double with 21 points and 12 boards. That's the most points Hargrove has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Dion Walker, who went 7-for-16 to rack up 22 points and three blocks.

Wise smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive contests.

Suitland's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ezra Rich, who had 26 points, and Devonte Mobley, who put up 20 points. The game was Mobley's third in a row with at least 15 points.

Wise's record is now 15-4. As for Suitland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-8.

Wise wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 75-72 win against Laurel on the 18th. As for Suitland, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 80-65 loss against Eleanor Roosevelt on the 18th.
