Soccer Game Preview: Woodstock vs. Lakes

The Woodstock Blue Streaks will venture away from home to take on the Lakes Eagles at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Woodstock comes in on five and Lakes on four.

Woodstock's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They came out on top against Johnsburg by a score of 2-0. The game was the first time Woodstock have beaten Johnsburg on their pitch since April 28, 2021.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lakes). Everything went their way against Round Lake on Thursday as they made off with a 9-0 victory. The final result isn't all the surprising considering Lakes' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 50th, while Round Lake are ranked 211th).

Lakes' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those three contests. As for Woodstock, their record is now 9-3.

Woodstock might still be hurting after the 5-0 loss they got from Lakes in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Blue Streaks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
