Soccer Game Preview: Hammondsport vs. Canisteo-Greenwood

Hammondsport is 2-7 against Canisteo-Greenwood since September of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Lakers are taking a road trip to challenge the Chargers at 7:00 p.m. Hammondsport's last three contests have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Friday, Hammondsport didn't have quite enough to beat Alfred-Almond and fell 6-5.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Canisteo-Greenwood). Their defense stepped up to hand Jasper-Troupsburg a 7-0 shutout on Wednesday. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded Canisteo-Greenwood with their most commanding win of the season.

Canisteo-Greenwood has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 21 goals over those six matches. As for Hammondsport, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

Hammondsport might still be hurting after the 4-1 loss they got from Canisteo-Greenwood in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Lakers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
