Baseball Recap: Salida Snags Third Win in Last Four Games

Salida's game on Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Platte Canyon Huskies a 16-0 shutout. Considering the Spartans have won five games by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Matthew Edgington made a big impact no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Edgington was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Orion Post was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (two). Another player making a difference was Anthony Taverna, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Salida always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Platte Canyon only posted an OBP of .083.

Salida is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Platte Canyon, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-11.

Coming up, Salida will be playing in front of their home fans against La Junta at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. As for Platte Canyon, they will head out to face off against South Park at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Huskies are facing the Burros at the right time seeing as the Burros are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
