Softball Recap: Cookeville Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Stewarts Creek, Cookeville was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the LaVergne Wolverines a 14-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Cavaliers in their matchups with the Wolverines: they've now won four in a row.

The team relied heavily on Kadie Presley, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Aspen Lyles, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Cookeville hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive matchups.

Cookeville's win bumped their record up to 4-9. As for LaVergne, they dropped their record down to 1-12 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Cookeville and LaVergne could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings. The Cavaliers (ranked 187th) will meet Halls (ranked 13th) at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, LaVergne will face off against Stewarts Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (285 vs. 38).
