Basketball Game Preview: Central Valley Academy Thunder vs. Proctor Raiders

The Central Valley Academy Thunder will square off against the Proctor Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Central Valley Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Proctor likes a good challenge.

Central Valley Academy is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Holland Patent just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 68-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Golden Knights. While the Thunder didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Golden Knights 20-14 in the first quarter.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Logan Judd, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 13 points and three blocks. Those 13 points gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Calvin Jacquays, who posted 18 points.

Even though they lost, Central Valley Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Proctor was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 73-60 to Cicero-North Syracuse. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 188th, while the Northstars are ranked tenth).

Proctor now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Central Valley Academy, their defeat ended a 16-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-4.

Central Valley Academy strolled past Proctor in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 by a score of 61-47. The rematch might be a little tougher for Central Valley Academy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
