Baseball Recap: South Newton Comes Up Short

South Newton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 25th straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against the Rensselaer Central Bombers, falling 16-5. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Rebels of the 11-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

South Newton saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aidan Mattox, who fired off two home runs while going 2-for-3.

South Newton's loss dropped their record down to 0-20. As for Rensselaer Central, they moved to 6-14 with that win, which also ended their six-game losing streak.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Newton will face off against North Newton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.18 runs per game on average), something the Rebels will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Rensselaer Central, they will host Tri-County at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
