Softball Recap: Fleming Colonels vs. Franklin County Eagles

Fleming extended their losing streak to 11 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 2-15 in the process. They lost 20-1 to the Franklin County Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-0 back in April.

As for Franklin County, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.

For Franklin County's part, Brooke Weaver made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Weaver has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Becca Merrick was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kamari Holland, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
