Basketball Recap: Sanford Piles Up the Points Against Howard

On Friday, Sanford faced Howard in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Sanford Warriors blew past the Howard Wildcats 66-29. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matchups by 28 points or more this season.

Despite the defeat, Howard saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ha'Lena Griffin dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards. What's more, Griffin also posted a 67% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Roniyah Clark, who posted seven points and five rebounds.

Sanford has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a massive bump to their 12-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points over those games. As for Howard, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 11-5 record this season.

Sanford didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 58-14 victory against Wilmington Friends on the 10th. As for Howard, they have also already played their next contest, a 54-47 win against Concord on the 10th.
