Baseball Recap: Salida Victorious

Salida lost to Buena Vista on Monday, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The Spartans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Demons.

Anthony Taverna made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bryce Rodrigue, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

The win got Salida back to even at 4-4. As for Buena Vista, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Coming up, Salida will head out to square off against Florence at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Huskies have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.86 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Buena Vista, they will host Sargent at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
