Basketball Recap: Jake Prior's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Heritage Hills over Evansville Memorial

Heritage Hills was the 66-65 winner over Evansville Memorial when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Heritage Hills Patriots fell to the Evansville Memorial Tigers 68-64. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (62), the Patriots still had to take the loss.

Heritage Hills' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jake Prior, who went 6 for 8 on his way to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Meredith, who went 6 of 12 en route to 14 points and eight rebounds.

Evansville Memorial got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Asher Evans out in front who went 7 of 9 on his way to 20 points and five steals. The dominant performance gave Evans a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Luke Ellspermann, who posted 18 points in addition to five assists and five boards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Heritage Hills fell to 4-1. As for Evansville Memorial, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Heritage Hills wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 72-57 defeat against Castle on the 21st. As for Evansville Memorial, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-45 victory against Scottsburg on the 21st.
