Softball Game Preview: Northwest Mohawks vs. Minford Falcons

The Northwest Mohawks will venture away from home to square off against the Minford Falcons at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Northwest will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Northwest is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on South Gallia with a sharp 20-1 win on Wednesday. The Mohawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by eight runs or more this season.

Annika Carpenter made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mollyann Runyon, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Karleigh South was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Northwest always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .812. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Minford was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 17-7 to Portsmouth West.

Northwest's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Minford, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-13.

Northwest took their victory against Minford in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 9-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mohawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
