Basketball Recap: Weld Central Falls Despite Big Games from Ross Phelps and Carter Mazzotti

Weld Central's last matchup with Brush could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's match on Thursday. The Weld Central Rebels lost 62-42 to the Brush Beetdiggers. The Rebels just can't catch a break and have now endured four defeats in a row.

Weld Central's loss came despite strong showings from Carter Mazzotti and Ross Phelps. Mazzotti posted nine points, while Phelps scored nine points.

Brush's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alexander Aguilar Saucedo, who went 6-for-11 en route to 21 points and six steals. The dominant performance gave Aguilar Saucedo a new career-high in steals. Eric Rico was another key player, going 5-for-10 on his way to 10 points along with seven assists and five steals.

Weld Central's loss dropped their record down to 2-19. As for Brush, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-12.

Coincidentally, Weld Central and Brush will both be playing Valley the next time they take the court. Weld Central will head out to face Valley at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Brush will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
