Preview: Pagosa Springs Pirates vs. Salida Spartans
Pagosa Springs has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on The Salida Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Salida took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Pagosa Springs, who comes in off a win.
Last Friday, Pagosa Springs narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Montezuma-Cortez 20-17.
Gavin Lindahl was on fire: he rushed for 187 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. Blake Laner did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 90 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Salida's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a 27-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bayfield.
The losing side was boosted by Abram Jones, who rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries.
Pagosa Springs now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Salida, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Pagosa Springs has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 191.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Salida struggles in that department as they've been averaging 166.4 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Pagosa Springs strolled past Salida in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 by a score of 33-14. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pagosa Springs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
