Basketball Recap: Jesse Howell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Oasis Christian over Frostproof

Oasis Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They lost 82-56 to the Frostproof Bulldogs. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 59-52 back in November of 2024.

Oasis Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jesse Howell, who posted 26 points. With that strong performance, Howell is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Zach Shannon was another key player, putting up 16 points.

Frostproof's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zavier Powell, who went 12 of 15 en route to 24 points along with eight boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Maurice Blakely, who went 8 for 13 on his way to 20 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds.

Oasis Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Frostproof, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.

Oasis Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 73-67 win against Winter Haven Christian on the 14th. Frostproof has also already played their next contest, a 66-51 loss against Avon Park on the 13th.
