Baseball Recap: Richlands Takes a Loss

Richlands had lost five straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 6-12 to make it six. They came up short against the Dixon Bulldogs, falling 7-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-0 back in March.

Richlands saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marlon Machado, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that Machado has snagged this season.

As for Dixon, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

On Dixon's side, Chris Tesgle made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Tesgle has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Shawn Almeida was a standout: he went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Luke Vincent was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Richlands will square off against West Carteret at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Dixon, they will challenge Wilmington Christian Academy at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
