Softball Recap: Fleming Island Now 10-2 over Last 12 Games

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Fleming Island walked away with it. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Ridgeview Panthers an 8-0 shutout on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Golden Eagles, who have now won nine contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

The result came thanks to Mallory Blackwell's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ashlyn Madine and Anisten Kurlander did most of the damage at the plate: Madine went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI, while Kurlander went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Emma Massey, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Fleming Island kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in seven consecutive games.

Fleming Island has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Ridgeview, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-15.

Coming up, Fleming Island will face off against Middleburg at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Golden Eagles 3.1, the Broncos 3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Ridgeview does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
