Softball Recap: Evangel Christian Comes Up Short at Home Against Macon-East Montgomery Academy

Evangel Christian unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell 16-13 to the Macon-East Montgomery Academy Knights on Monday. The Lightning were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2023.

Raylee Evans and Gracelynn Shackelford stepped up to the plate in a big way. Evans went 4-for-5 with three doubles, four RBI, and two runs, while Shackelford scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave Evans a new career-high in doubles. Jaydin Johnson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.

Macon-East Montgomery Academy pushed their record up to 3-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Evangel Christian will square off against Heritage Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Macon-East Montgomery Academy, they will face off against Southern Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
