Baseball Recap: Omaha North Comes Up Short

Mount Michael Benedictine hit Omaha North with a seven-run sixth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Vikings fell just short of the Knights by a score of 13-12. The Vikings just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Connor O'Neill was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Chance Kinman was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Omaha North is 5-2 when Kinman posts two or more runs, but 5-8 otherwise. Colin Kinman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.

Omaha North's record is now 10-10. As for Mount Michael Benedictine, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-10.

Meanwhile, Mount Michael Benedictine will take on rival Tekamah-Herman at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in the Knights' favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while the Tigers have been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road.
