Softball Recap: Eight Straight Home Wins for Monache

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Monache). They never let the Taft Wildcats get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but the Marauders sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Sophia Martinez tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Amiee Rivas, who went 2-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Mckinly Meister was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

Monache hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in three consecutive contests.

Monache pushed their record up to 6-2-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Taft, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monache will head out to take on Lemoore at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lemoore has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.82 runs per game on average), something Monache will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Taft, they will head out on the road to face off against Chavez at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
