Wink proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 11) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Ozona Lions, sneaking past 12-10. The victory was nothing new for the Wildcats as they're now sitting on five straight.

Viviana Flores was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and eight unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brelynn Bowden, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Jones, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.

Wink kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 14.6.

Wink pushed their record up to 7-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Ozona, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Wink will face off against rival Reagan County at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Ozona is set to challenge their familiar foe McCamey at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Ozona and nine for McCamey.
