Football Recap: Idalou Comes Up Short on the Road Against Sweetwater

Idalou had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They came up short against the Sweetwater Mustangs on Friday, falling 44-22. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Sweetwater's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Caiden Ortiz, who threw for 303 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes. Those 303 passing yards gave Ortiz a new career-high. Sweetwater's leading receiver Darwin Blueford was Ortiz's top target yet again, picking up 133 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Coming up, Idalou will head out on the road to take on Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Sweetwater, they will be playing at home against Greenwood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
