FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -
Union Pines (Cameron, N.C.) saw its 13-point lead dwindle to seven, but still managed to hang on and upset
Westover (Fayetteville, N.C.) 13-6 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown in the second quarter, the Vikings led 13-0 at the half.
Westover's lone touchdown came on a 10-yard pass from
Derrick Fitts to
Deonte Richardson in the fourth quarter.
Union Pines entered the contest giving up 23.6 points per game this year. UP held firm on the defensive front, and kept the Wolverines right around the 8.3 points it had been averaging per game.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which Westover took, 40-14.
The win was a nice bounce back for the Cameron school, which lost to Western Harnett last week, 43-35.
