Baseball Recap: Foothill Takes Down Ranked Coronado

Foothill faced Coronado in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Falcons narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Cougars 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Falcons have posted since February 27th.

Foothill got a great performance from James Durham as he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts Durham has posted since back in February.

At the plate, Foothill let Jacob Lester and Nolan Gifford run wild. Lester went 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Gifford went 2-for-3 with one home run. That's the most hits Gifford has posted over his last 11 contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Steve Alvarado, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Foothill's victory bumped their record up to 17-10. As for Coronado, their loss dropped their record down to 12-12.

Foothill will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Cougars: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
