Softball Game Preview: Indianapolis Lutheran Saints vs. Whiteland Warriors

The Indianapolis Lutheran Saints will face off against the Whiteland Warriors at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Indianapolis Lutheran will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

If Indianapolis Lutheran beats Whiteland with eight runs on Saturday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Saints beat Trinity Lutheran on Tuesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 8-2. The Saints might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.

Gracie Boggs spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Amelia Hughes, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Leyla Miller, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Hughes wasn't the only one making solid contact: Indianapolis Lutheran kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Whiteland lost 12-1 to Plainfield on Wednesday. The Warriors have struggled against the Quakers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Indianapolis Lutheran's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Whiteland, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
