Basketball Recap: Newark Central Takes a Loss

Newark Central lost against Newark Collegiate Academy back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Newark Central Blue Devils had to suffer through a 80-40 loss at the hands of the Newark Collegiate Academy Panthers. The Blue Devils were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-25.

Despite the loss, Newark Central still got an impressive performance from Drean Aikins, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Yam'Bya Ndaw, who posted two points in addition to six boards and five blocks.

Even though they lost, Newark Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 12 consecutive games.

Newark Central has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Newark Collegiate Academy, their win bumped their record up to 12-3.

Newark Central and Newark Collegiate Academy could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings. Newark Central will challenge Livingston at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday down 212 places (299 vs. 87). Similarly, Newark Collegiate Academy (ranked 75th) will meet Seton Hall Prep (ranked 14th) at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
