Preview: El Campo Ricebirds vs. Iowa Colony Pioneers
El Campo is 1-0 against Iowa Colony since October of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The El Campo Ricebirds will head out on the road to face off against the Iowa Colony Pioneers at 7:00 p.m. El Campo will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 353rd, while Iowa Colony is ranked 160th).
Last Friday, El Campo took a serious blow against Needville, falling 56-28. El Campo was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-14.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Ja?Kwuan Hudlin, who rushed for 185 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Stephen Norman, who rushed for 96 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Iowa Colony put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They enjoyed a cozy 37-21 win over Navasota. Iowa Colony had a rough season last year, but they looks ready to turn that poor record around this year.
Iowa Colony relied on the efforts of Carson White, who rushed for 35 yards and two touchdowns, and Aaron Tenner, who gained 226 total yards and a touchdown. Landrew Ward also helped out with an impressive 100 receiving yards.
Iowa Colony's win bumped their season record to 7-0 while El Campo's defeat dropped theirs to 3-4.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. El Campo has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 234.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Iowa Colony struggles in that department as they've been averaging 198.1 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything came up roses for El Campo against Iowa Colony in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 62-17 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for El Campo since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
