Basketball Recap: Chincoteague Sets Scoring Season-High Against Salisbury Christian

Chincoteague scored the most points they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 67-60 to Salisbury Christian. The Ponies' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Chincoteague's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Camaury Davis, who posted 18 points and four steals. With that strong performance, Davis is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. Matthew Taylor was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine boards.

Even though they lost, Chincoteague was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Chincoteague's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Salisbury Christian, with the victory, they broke their ten-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-10.

Chincoteague and Salisbury Christian could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in their respective state rankings. Chincoteague will square off against Wicomico at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday down 281 places (359 vs. 78). Meanwhile, Salisbury Christian (ranked 289th) will meet Delmarva Christian (ranked 131st) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
