Softball Recap: Fountain Inn Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Win

Fountain Inn waltzed into their contest on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They put the hurt on the Emerald Vikings with a sharp 18-1 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 23-0 last Tuesday.

Zoey Williams made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Bethany Brown was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. She is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last eight games she's played. Olivia Lieb was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Fountain Inn was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .350 or higher in seven consecutive matchups.

Fountain Inn pushed their record up to 9-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Emerald, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.

Coming up, Fountain Inn will be playing at home against Wren at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Emerald, they will venture away from home to challenge Ware Shoals at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
