Baseball Recap: South Sioux City Sets Scoring Season-High Against Benson

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Sioux City). They were the clear victors by a 20-1 margin over the Benson Bunnies on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Jonas Jensen and Jackson Jensen made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Jensen pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Jackson struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. At bat, Jensen scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Jackson scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Reece Stockton was a standout: he scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Darrius Helms was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

South Sioux City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Benson only posted an OBP of .278.

The win was the third in a row for South Sioux City, bringing their record up to 5-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Benson, they are on a 32-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

South Sioux City wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, an 8-1 loss against Roncalli Catholic on the 15th. As for Benson, they have also already played their next game, a 14-4 defeat against Bryan on the 12th.
