Two dominant backs in Drake Davis and Michael Lujan are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Mountain View Mountain Lions will face off against the Buena Colts at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 808 yards in their previous games.

Mountain View's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 28-0 win over Sunnyside. The Mountain Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Ion Brin looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 91 yards and one TD on only six carries, while also throwing for 44 yards and one touchdown. His longest rush was for an incredible 93 yards. Devin Loya was in the mix as well, providing Mountain View with one score.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Mountain View proved: they limited Sunnyside to a paltry 3.3 yards per carry. While three picked up at least seven total tackles, Caden Rudy stood above the rest. He picked up two sacks, made seven total tackles (3.0 for loss), and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception. Mountain View's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 4.81 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 6.9 on average over their last five games.

Mountain View's defense also made the game a nightmare for Raymond Duarte, racking up eight sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Jason Pogue and Rudy, who racked up five sacks between them. Rudy has been hot recently, having also posted seven or more total tackles the last four times he's played. Mountain View received some extra help from Loya, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Meanwhile, Buena came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.7 points), and they left with even more momentum. They came within six points of losing the streak, but they secured a 38-32 W against the Nighthawks.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Buena, adding 13 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Ricardo Brooks, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Buena didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Cooper Kraus and TJ Walker.

Mountain View's record now sits at 6-4. As for Buena, their record is now 7-3.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Mountain View has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 223.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Buena struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 237.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Mountain View couldn't quite get it done against Buena in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as they fell 47-35. Thankfully for the Mountain Lions, Andres Bonilla (who rushed for 176 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.4 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
