Mid Valley has gone a perfect 10-0 against Dunmore recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Spartans will head out to take on the Bucks at 4:30 p.m. Mid Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
While Mid Valley's victory against Old Forge wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Spartans narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Blue Devils 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Spartans have posted since May 24, 2024.
Nick Mills was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Balashaitis, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Mid Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Old Forge only posted an OBP of .400.
Meanwhile, Dunmore hadn't done well against Honesdale recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Bucks were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Hornets. The result was nothing new for the Bucks, who have now won ten matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Max Forgione made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Stets, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jackson Cady, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Mid Valley pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Dunmore, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Mid Valley hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Dunmore struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Mid Valley beat Dunmore 4-1 when the teams last played on April 4th. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
