Softball Recap: Gooding Wins Going Away Against Fruitland

Gooding was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Fruitland on Saturday. Gooding put the hurt on Fruitland with a sharp 13-3 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Senators considering their one-run performance the contest before.

Kaylee Silver and Jaelynn Patton were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Silver pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Patton tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Silver has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Silver scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Patton scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that Silver snagged this season.

In other batting news, Kodi Garza was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Rogers, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Gooding's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Fruitland, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.

Gooding will be playing at home against Wendell at 4:00 p.m. on April 1. As for Fruitland, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 20-0 loss against Middleton on the 22nd.
