Recap: Houston County Fighting Irish vs. Jo Byrns Red Devils

The Houston County Fighting Irish's's game two weeks ago was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They pulled ahead with a 15-14 photo finish over Jo Byrns. For Houston County, this counts as revenge for the 41-6 defeat Jo Byrns walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2022.

Houston County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Malaki Cary out in front who gained 88 total yards and a touchdown. Houston County also got a significant boost from Preston Mitchell, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 103 yards.

Houston County's win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 4-5. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Jo Byrns, Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central, and Stewart County. As for Jo Byrns, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Houston County will head out on the road to face off against McEwen at 7:01 p.m. on Thursday. McEwen will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last. As for Jo Byrns, they will be playing at home against Red Boiling Springs on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Tennessee (Red Boiling Springs is ranked 311th, while Jo Byrns is ranked 320th).
