The Wakefield Wolverines will head out to challenge the Gray's Creek Bears on Friday. Wakefield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.
Wakefield is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Enloe, sneaking past 5-3. The Wolverines haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Aniela Piscorik spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emily Fernandez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run. Holly Work also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
The home team had won the previous two meetings between Gray's Creek and Purnell Swett, and Gray's Creek kept the tradition alive. The Bears walked away with an 8-3 victory over the Rams on Tuesday.
Hannah Welsh made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off ten hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, August Kebort was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Amariya Green, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Gray's Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Purnell Swett only posted an OBP of .353.
Wakefield's record is now 21-3. As for Gray's Creek, their record now sits at an identical 21-3.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Wakefield has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11 hits per game. However, it's not like Gray's Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
