Cheshire Academy and Pomfret School pushed the score to 16-5 the last time they played Pomfret School, but on Wednesday defenses reigned supreme. The Cats narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Griffins 2-1. The Cats haven't had any issues with the Griffins recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

C.J. DiBenedetto looked comfortable as he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Chase Mendela, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Conner Crosbie was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Cheshire Academy's victory bumped their record up to 16-1. As for Pomfret School, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season.

Cheshire Academy will have a chance to go back-to-back against Pomfret School: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
