League recap: Salpointe Catholic extends winning streak with victory over Liberty

Adding to the longest winning streak in II Section V this week, Salpointe Catholic beat Liberty 45-14. This was the team's 12th consecutive win.

Salpointe Catholic took down the Lions 45-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Andrew Cota threw for 241 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 111 yards in the win.

Dennis Bene's team's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Jay Williams chipped in 118 yards. Cameron Denson helped Salpointe Catholic's passing attack out by catching 7 balls for 100 yards.

He was 13-23 with 0 interceptions.

Cota put up the best numbers through the air as the Lancers topped Liberty. Cota's favorite target this week was Kaelin Deboskie, who caught 6 passes for 141 yards.

Salpointe Catholic's Cota and Denson have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Cota has thrown for 2,133 yards this season, while Denson has 56 catches for 1,136 yards. Richie Estrada from Mountain View leads the league in rushing with 1,739 yards.

In 120 carries Bryce Coleman has put up 933 yards this year.

The Lancers led the league in scoring this week by notching 45 points on Danny Filleman's team. Cota ran for 111 yards during the win.
