Baseball Recap: Lovington Victorious

Lovington came out on top against Portales on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fourth inning. The Wildcats took their match against the Rams 10-6. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 6-5 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Fidencio Lujan was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Lovington's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-12 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Patrick Sanchez, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Lovington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They are 9-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory got Lovington back to even at 12-12. As for Portales, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Lovington beat the Rams by a score of 7-6 on Friday.
